I trained as a physician — a Doctorate of Medicine from the University of Calgary and a residency year in Radiation Oncology — before moving into software full-time in 1998. That background shows up in how I work: diagnose before you treat. I'd rather spend an hour understanding what's actually broken than a week guessing.
Since then I've been a developer, team lead, director and instructor across healthcare technology, logistics, and AI startups — including early contributions to HAPI FHIR, a widely-used open-source library for HL7 healthcare data exchange. Led warehouse-inbound functions for a North American warehouse management system. Designed an intelligent putaway engine that cut warehouse labor costs by 22%, and built tooling to migrate, synchronize and repair data across systems mid-migration.
Built core components of "Freedom," an integration portal enabling secure, bidirectional prescription transmission between doctors' offices and Shoppers Drug Mart pharmacies — the EMR component, messaging server, and pharmacist-facing front end.
Designed and built full practice-management systems: scheduling, automated payroll with commission logic, granular clinical documentation, alerts & messaging, and multidimensional reporting — plus newer MVPs spanning ed-tech microscheduling and IoT-driven vertical agriculture.
